The Green Bay Packers have bolstered their quarterback depth by acquiring Malik Willis from the Tennessee Titans. The trade involves the Packers sending a 2025 seventh-round draft pick to the Titans in exchange for Willis.
Willis, who was selected by the Titans in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft, brings with him valuable game experience. Over his first two seasons in the league, he appeared in 11 games, starting three of them during his rookie year. Willis has recorded a completion rate of 53.0%, accumulating 350 passing yards, no touchdowns, and three interceptions. Additionally, he has rushed 32 times for 144 yards and one touchdown.
Initially regarded as one of the top quarterback prospects in a relatively weak 2022 draft class, Willis had an impressive final season at Liberty. Despite this, he fell to the third round, and his uneven performance during his rookie season led to his diminished role with the Titans. The arrival of Will Levis, drafted by the Titans in the second round of the 2023 NFL Draft, further displaced Willis from the team’s plans.
Before acquiring Willis, the Packers’ backup options included second-year quarterbacks Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt, neither of whom had any NFL game experience.
The Packers are set to kick off their season next Friday with a game against the Philadelphia Eagles in São Paulo, Brazil.
