Nick Kyrgios Set to Make Grand Slam Return at Australian Open After Two-Year Hiatus
Nick Kyrgios, the Australian tennis star and former Wimbledon finalist, has officially entered the 2024 Australian Open, marking his first Grand Slam appearance in over two years. The tournament organizers revealed the entry lists on Friday, confirming that Kyrgios would compete using a protected ranking, a result of his prolonged absence from the court due to wrist and knee injuries.
Kyrgios, who reached the quarterfinals of the 2022 U.S. Open, has been sidelined for much of the past two years. However, he announced plans to return to competitive tennis at the Brisbane International on December 29, where he will play his first ATP Tour match in more than two years.
In addition to Kyrgios, other notable players have also entered the Australian Open with protected rankings. Belinda Bencic, the Tokyo Olympics gold medalist, will return after taking maternity leave following the birth of her daughter, Bella, in April. Former world No. 4 Kei Nishikori is also set to compete at the Australian Open for the first time since 2021, following an extended period away from the sport.
The 2024 Australian Open will run from January 12 to 26, with a star-studded field of players gearing up for the prestigious event.
