Kylian Mbappé continued his impressive scoring form, netting his sixth goal in five matches as Real Madrid secured a 3-2 victory over Alaves on Tuesday. This win keeps Madrid close to league leaders Barcelona in the Spanish league standings.
The highlight of the match came in the 40th minute when Mbappé displayed his skill by initiating a give-and-go with Jude Bellingham. After executing a clever heel flick, he received the pass inside the penalty area, maneuvered past a defender, and found the back of the net.
In the 80th minute, Mbappé requested to be substituted due to a muscle issue, although Madrid’s coach Carlo Ancelotti later indicated that the injury was not serious.
Real Madrid’s scoring was bolstered by goals from Lucas Vázquez and Rodrygo, contributing to an unbeaten streak of 39 league matches that includes 29 wins and 10 draws dating back to last season. Alaves fought back late in the game, with Carlos Benavídez scoring in the 85th minute and Kike García adding another goal just a minute later, but they could not equalize despite creating late chances.
Vázquez commented on the match, noting that while the team played strongly for most of the game, they faced unnecessary pressure in the final moments.
With this victory, Madrid sits just one point behind Barcelona, which will aim for its seventh consecutive win of the season when it faces Getafe on Wednesday.
Since joining Madrid as a free agent from Paris Saint-Germain, Mbappé has made a significant impact, scoring seven goals in nine matches across all competitions, including five in La Liga, placing him just one goal behind the league’s top scorer, Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona.
Mbappé also had a goal ruled out for offside in the 22nd minute. He was substituted for Arda Güler shortly after the 80-minute mark.
Vázquez opened the scoring just one minute into the match, finishing off a slick play initiated by Vinícius Júnior. Rodrygo extended Madrid’s lead shortly after halftime with a goal in the 48th minute.
Ancelotti, marking his 300th match in charge, opted to field most of his regular starters despite a busy schedule ahead, emphasizing the importance of maintaining momentum as the season progresses.
