Brock Faber has committed to an eight-year deal with the Minnesota Wild, with the contract valued at $68 million, starting from the 2025-26 season. This agreement marks an average yearly salary of $8.5 million for Faber.
At just 21 years old, the defenseman showcased his skills throughout his rookie season by playing in all 82 games and scoring 47 points, consisting of eight goals and 39 assists. Faber not only led all rookies in average ice time per game at 24:58 but also in assists, and tied for second in total points.
He was a close runner-up for the Calder Memorial Trophy, coming in second to Connor Bedard of the Chicago Blackhawks. His points tally is a record for a rookie defenseman with the Wild and the second highest in the team’s history, following Kirill Kaprizov who scored 51 points in the 2020-21 season.
Faber expressed his dedication to the game and his team, stating that his focus remains on winning and not on financial gains. He emphasized his appreciation for the opportunity to continue developing and contributing to the team long-term in Minnesota, a place he was eager to represent.
Chosen by the Los Angeles Kings in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft, Faber has accumulated 47 points across 84 regular-season games. He has also participated in six Stanley Cup Playoff games. Following a trade on June 29, 2022, which also involved a first-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, Faber moved from Los Angeles to Minnesota in exchange for forward Kevin Fiala.
Bill Guerin, the Wild’s general manager, highlighted the importance of securing key players like Faber for the future success of the team. He stressed the significance of team-oriented players who prioritize collective success over individual accolades. Guerin celebrated the contract signing as a monumental moment for both the organization and the local community, especially since Faber is a native of Maple Grove, Minnesota.
This agreement underscores the Wild’s strategy to build a strong, winning team foundation by securing talented, young players committed to the team’s ethos.
